I've really been enjoying this era recently. I used to think of 1971 as being super mellow for whatever reason. But when you crank the volume the energy is there and full throttle. Some songs like Bobby McGee and Hard to Handle were never played better than in this era for my tastes.

I don't necessarily think there are too many specific differences between this era and what came months before and months after. The band was constantly evolving so tough to say how it would have been different. If you listen to 2-18-71 and 2-19-71, I don't detect a huge difference between the two. Either way, it's the good ol' Grateful Dead!
